It is over 4000 years ago, and settlers have banded together to form the first stable city states of history. To the south, Egypt is the jewel of the Nile, ready to construct the Great Pyramids. The philosophers of Greece aim to create the perfect society. Rome is in its infancy, will they be ready to march across the ancient world? Phoenicia, the first sailors of the Mediterranean, spread the Alphabet across the seas. Carthage lies dormant in the west, and Persia holds the fertile crescent within its grasp. Build All the Wonders of the World to Win!
This scenario allows new players to Civilization III to begin with familiar civilizations and master the basics of the game without too many worries. Having partners play together will help the learning process, and having a knowledgeable helper near at hand is essential to speedy success. Early gameplay consists largely of fending off pesky barbarian raiders. Soon the player will encounter neighboring civilizations and have the choice of peace or war. Befriend your neighbors and let trade flourish, or put them to the sword!

Iron Age - A period of history where the most advanced form of metal working involved the use of iron. 1200 BC – 300 BC.
Astronomy – The study of stars and other objects in outer space. It was used by ancient civilizations to navigate boats on the ocean and make calendars.
Hoplite – Armored Greek soldiers whose primary weapons were spears and bronze shields. These soldiers fought in tightly packed square formations.
Legionary – An armored Roman soldier whose primary weapons were iron swords and shields. These soldiers fought in tightly packed rows.
Library – A collection of books, scrolls and other information open to the public. The Great Library of Alexandria is the most famous library of ancient times.
Galley – A large, sea-going boat that is moved primarily by people rowing oars.
